During our 30+ years in business, we have seen many vehicles come into our workshop that haven’t had their tyres checked on a regular basis. Tyres are the only contact between you and the road. Tyres kept in a poor condition can be dangerous in a number of ways:
- The legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm across ¾ of the width of the tyre for a very good reason. A good condition tread disperses rainwater more effectively in wet conditions. A bald tyre can cause aquaplaning, where the car will lose grip and potentially lose control causing a collision.
- Incorrectly inflated tyres can not only adversely affect fuel consumption, but can accelerate tyre wear and affect the handling and balance of the car. This can result in a blow out and even a collision. Therefore it is essential that tyre pressures are maintained at the manufacturers recommended pressures.
